Andrew Dale Brown Andrew Brown was raised by his parents, immigrants from Jamaica, in Toronto and subsequently Mississauga, Ontario. Though they were never wealthy, his parents taught him the value of hard work and the importance of an education. At a young age, Andrew developed a love for science that was matched only by his desire to make a difference. He found satisfaction in both as a science tutor at the age of 12.

His aptitude for the sciences brought him to McMaster University where he completed an Honors Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences - financed almost entirely on scholarships. While at McMaster, he continued to contribute to his community and was recognized numerous times for his work. Andrew is currently a medical student at the University of Toronto where we will graduate in 2011.

Andrew Dale Brown was born in Toronto on July 26, 1984. His father, Noel Brown, was born and raised in a rural farming community in Jamaica. While he was well known for his hard work, it was his selflessness, tilling the land of his neighbors without pay, that made him a pillar of the community. Andrew’s mother, Conita Brown, grew up in a small Jamaican town. Her father was a farmer, and her mother a domestic servant to the British. Conita, after finishing high school and boarding school, became a teacher of grade 6 students.

Andrew’s family left Toronto when he was two years of age and moved to the suburbs of Mississauga. Andrew spent much of his formative years engaged in competitive baseball where he developed a sense of team and community spirit while learning the value of co-operation, perseverance, and leadership.

Andrew attended Applewood Heights Senior Public School where he excelled academically and contributed tirelessly to his community. Remembering the values of altruism and responsibility taught by his parents, Andrew pursued extracurricular activities that gave back to the community through tutoring, mentoring and coaching.  Later, he moved to Hamilton, ON, where he graduated from McMaster University in 2007.
